Boston Red Sox closer Aroldis Chapman continues to demonstrate his dominance on the mound, adding another outstanding performance to his already impressive season.

Chapman: A Pitcher in a Special Moment

With 37 years old, Chapman has proven to be at the top of his game, as evidenced by his recent performance where he struck out four batters in one inning. The eight-time All-Star, who recently signed a contract for $13.3 million for 2026, is experiencing one of the most dominant streaks in baseball history for a reliever. Combining his speed of over 100 mph with breaking pitches, Chapman has accumulated 17 consecutive appearances, spanning 14 2/3 innings, without allowing hits since July 26. This is the third-longest streak since 1901.

This is special.

Chapman has allowed only one earned run in his last 37 games and has retired 21 consecutive batters before Ildemaro Vargas of the Arizona Diamondbacks reached first base after a strikeout on a wild pitch. Chapman earned his 29th save, becoming the second pitcher to record four strikeouts in an inning this season. With an effectiveness of 0.98, Chapman has allowed only six earned runs all season. Chapman has built his reputation as a power pitcher over 16 years, recording speeds of 100 mph on the radar. He has thrown eight of the nine fastest pitches in baseball history, including one of 105.8 mph in 2010, the fastest in MLB history. In addition to his power, Chapman has added cunning to his repertoire, confusing batters with sliders and splitters.

My mindset is to get three outs and look for the strikeout.
