Aroldis Chapman: The Domination Continues with the Red Sox

Boston Red Sox closer Aroldis Chapman has once again proven his worth on the mound. At 37 years old, Chapman remains dominant, as evidenced by his recent performance where he struck out four batters in one inning. Chapman, who recently signed a contract for $13.3 million for 2026, is experiencing one of the most impressive streaks for a relief pitcher in baseball history. Combining his speed of over 100 mph with breaking pitches, Chapman has achieved 17 consecutive appearances, spanning 14⅔ innings, without allowing hits since July 26. This is the third-longest streak since 1901.

This is special.

In his last 37 games, Chapman has allowed only one earned run. Before Ildemaro Vargas of the Arizona Diamondbacks reached first base after a wild pitch, Chapman had retired 21 consecutive batters. Chapman earned his 29th save by striking out Jordan Lawlar, becoming the second pitcher to record four strikeouts in an inning this season, joining Steven Matz of the St. Louis Cardinals. Chapman has allowed six earned runs all season, lowering his ERA to 0.98 with his recent performance. Red Sox opener Brayan Bello commented on Chapman’s performance:

It’s so nasty, and he’s showing people he can still do a lot of great things.

Chapman is known for his speed, having recorded eight of the nine fastest pitches in baseball history, including a 105.8 mph pitch in 2010, the fastest in MLB history. In addition to his speed, Chapman has added guile to his repertoire, baffling batters with sliders and splitters. Chapman declared:

My mindset is to get three outs and go for the strikeout.
