Amidst the celebration, with prosecco and beer flowing, Christian Yelich celebrated the conquest of the third consecutive title of the National League Central Division for the Milwaukee Brewers.
“This is why,” Yelich declared after securing the championship. “This is what we strive for all year, for the attention to detail and for the hard work. It’s for these moments that we strive, to celebrate with our teammates.”
With the best regular season record, the Brewers secured their fourth divisional title in five years, although they feel like the team to beat in the playoffs.
“In baseball, any team can beat anyone, especially in short series. We won’t be the favorites, but that gives us freedom. Nobody expects us to achieve it, so we go out to play,” added Yelich.

The season presented challenges for the Brewers, with the departure of Willy Adames and the injury of Devin Williams. In addition, the recovery of veterans like Brandon Woodruff (shoulder surgery) and Yelich himself (back) generated uncertainty.
Although both players were key, Woodruff’s participation in the postseason is in doubt after being placed on the injured list for a moderate strain.
“Are we the most talented? No. Will we face teams with more talent and a bigger budget? Yes, but that doesn’t worry us,” commented manager Pat Murphy.

Since 2018, the Brewers have been eliminated in the wild card round four times, in the divisional series once, and in the National League Championship Series once. The franchise’s only championship was in 1982.
“I heard someone say that we have the regular season solved, now we must solve the playoffs. It’s one of the most absurd comments I’ve heard,” emphasized Murphy, highlighting his team’s work.

After losing against St. Louis, the Brewers waited for the result of the Cubs game. Then, they put on “division champions” t-shirts, sprayed prosecco, and poured beer on themselves.
In the locker room, a blue flag with the signature of the late announcer Bob Uecker adorned the place.
The owner Mark Attanasio suggested that there was “Brewers magic or Uecker magic” on this team.
“It’s really the culture. Every spring we come with the goal of winning the division,” said Sal Frelick.

Murphy, who joined the team before the season, highlighted the team’s effort.
“When we started the year, nobody thought we’d be here. We’ve had injuries, nobody imagined we’d be in this place,” Woodruff said.

The team had an outstanding performance in July and August, transforming a four-game deficit into a nine-game lead in the division.
“We’ve done a great job as a group to get here. And you know what, there’s still a lot of baseball left for the Brewers,” added Woodruff.

Last year, they won the Central by 10 games before losing the wild card series against the Mets.
For Murphy, that’s the fickle nature of the playoffs.
