In the world of golf, anticipation grows as the best players prepare for the PGA Championship. Among them, Jordan Spieth seeks to add a prestigious title to his impressive resume.

Spieth in Search of the Grand Slam

Rory McIlroy suggested to Spieth that he might be the next to complete the career Grand Slam at the upcoming PGA Championship. Spieth, in good spirits, referred to Quail Hollow Club as the “Rory McIlroy Country Club”.

McIlroy, with four victories at the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow, is one of the favorites to win his third Wanamaker Trophy. Spieth, for his part, has the opportunity to become the seventh golfer to achieve the career Grand Slam if he wins the PGA Championship.

This would be his ninth attempt since his last major victory, the 2017 Open Championship. Spieth also won the Masters and the U.S. Open in 2015.

There have been several years that I’ve come to the PGA, and nobody’s really asked me about it. It’s funny, I think if Rory hadn’t done it at the Masters, then it wouldn’t have been a story for me here necessarily.

Although McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler are the favorites, this could be one of Spieth’s best opportunities, especially after recovering from surgery in August to repair a tendon in his left wrist.

Spieth has had three top 10s and six top 25s in 11 tournaments this season. His last victory on the circuit was at the 2022 RBC Heritage. He is currently on a 66-tournament winless streak.

Anyone who has recovered from an injury wants to be out there doing more and more and more. It’s a difficult process to be patient, especially for me.

Spieth’s best chance to win the Wanamaker Trophy was in 2015, where he finished second.

Spieth has finished outside the top 25 in his last six PGA Championship appearances.

It’s always circled on the calendar. If I could only win one tournament for the rest of my life, I would choose this one for that reason. Obviously, seeing Rory win after trying for several years was inspiring.
