OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Robert MacIntyre demonstrated his dominance at the BMW Championship, leading with a five-stroke lead over Scottie Scheffler after two impressive rounds. MacIntyre, with an impressive 64, solidified his position at the top of the tournament. MacIntyre closed the first round with six consecutive birdies, culminating in a 62. In the second round, he continued his streak with another early birdie, setting a challenging target with a total of 14 under par (126). Scheffler, for his part, fought to stay in the contest, finishing with six consecutive pars for a 65 and a cumulative score of 9 under par (131). Ludvig Åberg also had an outstanding performance with a 64, finishing one stroke behind Scheffler. The advantage of MacIntyre is the largest in 36 holes at the BMW Championship since Jason Day led by five strokes in 2015.
Only 36 holes have passed. There’s a long way to go. I feel comfortable with myself, with the team around me, and on this golf course. I’m just going to play golf.
Robert MacIntyreMacIntyre has shown great skill, especially in putting, where he has gained 6.8 strokes over the rest of the players in 36 holes. Scheffler achieved his fifteenth consecutive round under 70, getting within five strokes of MacIntyre on the 12th hole. However, he couldn’t maintain the pace in the final holes.Hideki Matsuyama, despite feeling unwell, maintained his impeccable game without bogeys in 36 holes, achieving a 64 and placing fourth, seven strokes behind the leader. Michael Kim, with a 66, and Tommy Fleetwood, with a 69, are in a group tied for fifth place, eight strokes behind MacIntyre. For Kim, the ranking in the tournament is crucial, as he needs to secure a place among the top 30 of the FedEx Cup to advance to next week’s Tour Championship. Harry Hall, with a 67, is also in a prominent position, tied for eighth place. Hall has had a good year and could move up into the top 30. Rory McIlroy, who is returning to competition after the British Open, had a round of 66, finishing 10 strokes behind MacIntyre. Not having bogeys is always good. I would have liked to have had a couple of better opportunities at the end, but I couldn’t hit many fairways on the last few holes, and here, with the way the holes are designed, you have to be in play. I did a good job of saving pars when I needed to on the back nine.
Scottie SchefflerI think I’m kind of playing my own tournament at the moment. I just want to try and play a good weekend and feel a little bit better about my game heading into the Tour Championship.
