McIlroy leads European victory in the Ryder Cup
After a two-year wait, Rory McIlroy became the protagonist of the European victory in the Ryder Cup, as predicted. The celebration, however, began without him. Shane Lowry, with a decisive putt on the 18th hole, sealed the victory. The European team, led by Luke Donald, celebrated enthusiastically before a predominantly European fanbase. Jon Rahm hugged José María Olazábal, emotional, while Donald breathed a sigh of relief. McIlroy, after losing his individual match against Scottie Scheffler, stayed on the course, supporting his teammates.McIlroy remained present, supporting Tyrrell Hatton and Robert MacIntyre. The European victory was achieved with a score of 15-13.“It was very close at the end. It was a little stressful,” McIlroy commented.
The cohesion of the European team, their way of celebrating and supporting each other, is evident. In the team game, the Europeans have demonstrated their strength, even surpassing the Americans, who, although with individual talent, failed to counteract the European unity.“It’s good to be right. I’m not always right,” McIlroy said about his prediction. “I think when we won in Rome, the mechanisms were put in place to try to do something that hadn’t been done in over a decade. We believed a lot in our continuity.”
McIlroy, with tears in his eyes, listened to the words of his captain, thus sealing a historic victory.“We will always remember this. We will always go down in history,” said Donald.
