Piastri Rejects “Ice Boy” Nickname After Securing Pole in Spain
Australian driver Oscar Piastri, Formula 1 championship leader for McLaren, has rejected the nickname “Ice Boy”, despite his reputation for remaining calm under pressure.
Piastri took pole position with an impressive lap in qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix.
A reporter suggested that Piastri could be the successor to the “Iceman” Kimi Raikkonen, Ferrari’s 2007 world champion, due to his seemingly calm demeanor.I’m not sure I want to use the name ‘Ice Boy’.

Piastri explained that his emotions vary in each race and qualifying. Although sometimes he remains calm, he acknowledges that on other occasions he feels a lot of emotion.
The pilot added that, although he feels satisfaction for his achievements, he is not a particularly emotional person.
Piastri also mentioned that, although he may have emotional moments, he knows that Saturday is only part of the job and that the real celebration should wait until after Sunday’s race.
The 24-year-old driver, born in Melbourne and educated in England, has won four of the eight races this season and this is his fourth pole of the championship.Currently, he has a three-point advantage over teammate Lando Norris, who won from pole in Monaco last Sunday, but Piastri has shown no signs of feeling the pressure.
It’s a good thing to have, starting on pole, but it’s not the end of the weekend. The points are tomorrow. After the races, it depends a little bit on the race.

Piastri explained that, depending on the competition in the race, the celebration can be more or less effusive.
