The incident occurred at the first corner, while Piastri and Norris were competing for second position. Piastri, while trying to overtake Nico Hülkenberg of Sauber, was involved in contact that led him to collide with his teammate. This is the second crash between the McLaren drivers in two weeks, following the incident in Singapore, for which Norris received internal “repercussions”.

I believe for me, it’s a racing incident.

Piastri explained that, although he could have acted differently, that would have meant conceding positions. Norris, for his part, preferred not to get into accusations, stating that the team will review the incident, as it did in Singapore. Max Verstappen from Red Bull took advantage of the incident to score points, reducing the distance with Piastri in the championship. Hülkenberg, involved in the incident, commented that Piastri acted aggressively when attempting the overtake.

Norris will start Sunday’s race from pole position, with Piastri in sixth position. McLaren team principal Andrea Stella confirmed that the team will review the incident, but emphasized that the conversations focused on preparing for the rest of the weekend. Stella also suggested that the lack of caution on the part of other, more experienced drivers may have contributed to the incident.
