Hamilton Defends Vasseur Amid Rumors About His Future at Ferrari

MONTREAL, Canada – Lewis Hamilton has expressed his unconditional support for Fred Vasseur, the Ferrari team principal, amid reports of a possible departure of the director. The Italian publication Corriere della Sera reported that Vasseur is in a delicate situation after an “unsatisfactory” start in 2025. It is speculated that Antonello Coletta, who has led Ferrari’s endurance team to consecutive victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, could be his replacement.

“I love working with Fred. Fred is the main reason why I am on this team, and I had the opportunity to be here, so I will always be grateful. And we are in this together. We are working hard in the background. Things are not perfect. I am here to work with the team, but also with Fred. I want Fred here. I think Fred is the person who will take us to the top”.

Since his arrival at Ferrari, Hamilton has yet to reach the podium, with the exception of a victory in the sprint race in China. The driver qualified the Spanish Grand Prix as the “worst race” of his career, but took the opportunity to deny rumors about his motivation to continue competing. Ferrari arrived in 2025 with high expectations following Hamilton’s arrival and the good performance of last season. Vasseur, who took over the position in 2023, has been recognized for his calming influence on a team often affected by external pressure and high media expectations. However, the situation in the Italian media has changed drastically in recent weeks, often indicating internal problems. Reports about Vasseur’s future have gained momentum. Two weeks ago, Christian Horner, Red Bull’s boss, denied a Bild report suggesting that John Elkann, Ferrari’s chairman, had contacted him to replace Vasseur. Horner commented: “My commitment is 100% with Red Bull. It always has been and certainly will be in the long term.”
