Enrico Cardile Joins Aston Martin as Technical Director

Aston Martin has officially confirmed the incorporation of Enrico Cardile as Technical Director of its Formula 1 team. The Italian engineer, coming from Ferrari, is already working in his new position. Cardile, who left his position at Ferrari in mid-2024, had agreed to join Aston Martin. However, both teams maintained a dispute over Cardile’s start date at his new team. The arrival of Cardile is part of Aston Martin’s strategy, driven by owner Lawrence Stroll, to compete for the championship from 2026. The team has also added figures such as Adrian Newey and Andy Cowell. At the beginning of this year, Ferrari obtained a court order preventing Cardile from collaborating with Aston Martin until the end of his “gardening leave” period. The Italian team argued that Cardile could not start working with Aston Martin until July 18th.

The Italian team stated that the court determined that “our former employee was already violating the non-compete agreement with Ferrari, whose purpose was precisely to prevent other F1 teams from gaining an unjustified competitive advantage by hiring Cardile before allowed, causing irreparable damage to Ferrari”.

Aston Martin confirmed that Cardile is already performing his new role. In a statement, the team expressed its satisfaction at having resolved the situation, allowing Cardile to lead the design and technical functions at the AMR Technology Campus. The arrival of Cardile marks a significant milestone for Aston Martin, especially in the new era of F1 that will begin next season. This stage will include new regulations that will force the design of completely new cars and engines, promising a change in the competitive order. Stroll has described Newey, Cowell and Cardile as a “formidable leadership team”. Aston Martin has also invested in a new and modern F1 facility at its headquarters, located opposite the Silverstone circuit, home of the British Grand Prix. In addition, the team will start the new cycle of regulations with an exclusive supply of Honda engines, after years of using Mercedes power units. Honda will end its partnership with Red Bull at the end of 2025.
