Deontay Wilder Returns to the Ring with KO Victory

The former heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder, secured a technical knockout victory in the seventh round against the little-known Tyrrell Herndon in his return to the ring. The fight took place at the Charles Koch Arena in Wichita, Kansas. The referee stopped the fight at 2:16 of the seventh round. This victory marks the return of Wilder, 39, to the path of triumph after having lost three of his last four fights. This was his first fight since June 2024, when he suffered a knockout loss to Zhilei Zhang.

I was away for a long time, recovering mentally, physically, and emotionally. It’s been a long road for me. It’s great to be back in the ring. I didn’t give the fans exactly what they wanted to see, but I’m going to get better and better.

Wilder, recognized for his devastating power, with a knockout percentage of 97.7%, had to show patience against Herndon, who seemed more interested in surviving than winning the fight. Wilder, who is 6 feet 7 inches tall, tried to connect with his signature right hand. However, Herndon defended himself and evaded the blows.

In the second round, Wilder managed to send Herndon to the canvas with a left hook. Herndon got up quickly, showing no effects from the knockdown. However, he lacked an offensive plan, and Wilder became more aggressive.

At the end of the fifth round, Wilder was advancing, throwing punches with intent. He decided to accelerate in the sixth round, seeking the knockout against a visibly exhausted Herndon. Wilder cornered him during the sixth and seventh rounds, increasing his volume of punches and seeking to connect the right hand.

A series of blows knocked Herndon down in the sixth round. Wilder sealed his comeback in the next round with a powerful right hand that violently separated Herndon’s gloves. Herndon did not respond to the blows, which led the referee to stop the fight.
