Olympic Boxing Champion, Lazizbek Mullojonov, Provisionally Suspended for Doping

The Olympic boxing champion in the heavyweight category, Lazizbek Mullojonov, has been provisionally suspended after testing positive for a banned substance, according to the International Testing Agency (ITA).

The 26-year-old Uzbek boxer tested positive for metasterone, a synthetic anabolic-androgenic steroid associated with accelerated muscle growth and increased strength and power.

The sample was collected on June 11 during an out-of-competition control.

“The athlete has been informed of the case and has the right to request the analysis of the B sample,” ITA said in an official statement.

If the analysis of sample B is requested and the result of sample A is confirmed, the case will be considered a confirmed violation of anti-doping rules. Similarly, if the analysis of sample B is not requested, the case will also proceed as a confirmed violation.

The agency added that “the athlete will have the opportunity to present their explanations about the result”.

Mullojonov also won a bronze medal in the heavyweight category at the 2023 IBA World Boxing Championships and a super heavyweight gold medal at the 2022 Asian Amateur Boxing Championships.
