Baraou in the Top 10 Junior Mediums? ESPN Ranking Analysis

The boxing weekend, although it didn’t have a direct impact on the ESPN division rankings, gave us an unmissable fight.

Baraou vs. Tellez: A Fight to Remember

In the co-main event of the first edition of MVP Fight Night, organized by Most Valuable Promotions in Orlando, super welterweights Abass Baraou (17-1, 9 KOs) and Yoenis Tellez (10-1, 7 KOs) offered an electrifying match. The fight, hard-fought and entertaining, had highlights for both boxers. Tellez, known for his decisive victory over Julian Williams in March, countered Baraou’s constant pressure with precise counterattacks. However, Baraou did not give up, and his high-volume offense eventually wore down Tellez in the twelfth round, sending the Cuban to the canvas with a few seconds remaining and sealing an exceptional performance. The main event resulted in a controversial fight that ended in a majority draw. Yankiel Rivera (7-0-1, 3 KOs) and Angelino Cordova (19-0-2, 12 KOs) drew despite Cordova being knocked down and penalized a point. Rivera seemed to have the advantage after knocking down Cordova in the fourth round and after Cordova’s penalty for repeated blows to the back of the head in the sixth round. However, none of the three judges scored in favor of Rivera, with two scoring 113-113 and a third surprisingly in favor of Cordova with 115-111. Boxing rankings by division highlight the best in each weight category. These rankings will be updated according to recent results and performances. Boxers who have announced their move to a different division will be ranked in that new division, if applicable, only after fighting in it. Boxers currently holding titles in two divisions may be ranked in both. Boxers who have not competed in the last 12 months, and who do not have a scheduled fight, will be removed from the rankings until they fight again. Any boxer who tests positive for a performance-enhancing substance will also be removed. That boxer may re-enter the rankings after their next fight.
