Canario Leads Escogido’s Beating of Licey with Grand Slam
Santo Domingo – Alexander Canario emerged as the offensive figure of the day, driving the Leones del Escogido’s resounding 15-1 victory over the Tigres del Licey this Tuesday at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal Stadium. Canario hit two home runs, including a grand slam in the ninth inning.
The encounter evidenced the offensive superiority of the “melenudos”, who had a solid performance from the mound and an implacable attack that defeated the “felinos”.
Domain on the Mound and Explosive Offense
Grant Gavin (4-3) led the mound work for the Lions, pitching 5 innings in which he allowed only one hit, with three strikeouts and three walks. The relief maintained the pressure, with Génesis Cabrera, Alexander Colomé, and Hansel Marcelino closing the game without complications.
The scarlet offensive made itself felt early. Yainer Díaz, in his debut, hit a two-run home run in the first inning. In that same inning, the Escogido added two more runs, including a run-scoring double by Junior Lake.

The Tigers’ only run came in the eighth inning thanks to a solo home run by Esteury Ruiz.
Shaun Anderson (1-2), Licey’s starting pitcher, took the loss after allowing six runs in just 1.1 innings.
