Derrick Henry and Adam Sandler: A Hollywood-Flavored Bet

A curious bet between Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry and famous Hollywood actor Adam Sandler has captured everyone’s attention.

If Henry manages to run for 2,000 yards or more this season, he will not only enter the NFL record books, but he will also have a role in an Adam Sandler movie.

It all started on Tuesday on the Dan Patrick show, where Patrick proposed to Henry the possibility of appearing in a Sandler movie if he surpassed 2,000 rushing yards this season. Two days later, “King Henry” already had a deal with “Happy Gilmore” himself.

On Thursday, during training, Henry was given a phone with a video message from Sandler.

Two thousand yards or more this year not only guarantees you a movie, but we’ll also have a nice dinner together and talk about Dan Patrick’s facial hair and how hard it is for him to grow it out,” Sandler said. “I love you and keep it up.

Henry is one of the nine NFL players who have achieved a 2,000-yard rushing season, a feat he accomplished in 2020. If he repeats the feat in 2025, he would become the first player in NFL history to achieve it twice and could now get a cameo with his favorite actor.

This unusual connection between the All-Pro running back and the “Billy Madison” star began earlier this week, when Henry was invited to the Dan Patrick show to discuss his recent two-year, $30 million contract extension. The conversation drifted to Patrick’s sweatshirt, which had been gifted to him by Sandler.

Henry asked Patrick: “Can you do me a favor? If you see him again, tell him that I am a big fan and that I would love to meet him someday.”

When Patrick told him he would include him in a Sandler movie if he ran for over 2,000 yards, Henry quickly replied: “Okay, great. Say no more.”

A few days later, Ravens senior vice president of communications Chad Steele handed Henry a phone with Sandler’s video. “Damn, that’s my brother,” Henry said upon seeing Sandler.

Henry then wrote on social media: “Dan, you’re the best and Adam Sandler is the greatest! I appreciate the extra motivation!”
