Italy Crowned Davis Cup Champion Without Sinner
Italy continues to demonstrate its dominance in the Davis Cup, securing its fourth title without the need for its star, Jannik Sinner.
In an exciting final against Spain, Matteo Berrettini and Flavio Cobolli led the way for the Italians, winning their singles matches and securing a decisive 2-0 victory.
This triumph marks Italy’s fourth Davis Cup title and the third consecutive, a remarkable feat in world tennis.
The Italian team has once again demonstrated its strength and cohesion, even without the presence of key players.
Sinner, ranked number 2 in the world, chose not to participate in this edition to focus on preparing for the next season. Lorenzo Musetti also withdrew.
Italy demonstrated its ability to overcome challenges, winning all its matches 2-0 this week at the SuperTennis Arena in Bologna.
In Sunday’s final, Berrettini defeated Pablo Carreño Busta with a score of 6-3, 6-4, while Cobolli secured the decisive point by defeating Jaume Munar with a score of 1-6, 7-6 (5), 7-5.
Spain, which also did not have its star Carlos Alcaraz, could not avoid the defeat.
Italy won the Davis Cup for the first time in 1976, and then in Malaga in 2023 and 2024. This is the first time they have won at home.
Spain, six-time champion, reached the final for the first time since 2019.
