Frazer Clarke aims for the conquest of the British heavyweight title to be the springboard to achieve greater things, emulating the path taken by figures like Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury, and Lennox Lewis. Clarke (9-1-1, 7 KOs) seeks redemption after the first-round knockout loss to Fabio Wardley last October. He will face Jeamie ‘TKV’ Tshikeva (8-2, 5 KOs) for the vacant British heavyweight title in Derby, England, this Saturday. The 34-year-old boxer, originally from Burton-upon-Trent, won an Olympic bronze medal in 2021, but suffered a fractured jaw and cheekbone in his first professional defeat against Wardley. This fight comes after an exciting points draw with his English rival in March last year. Both matchups were for the British title, and Wardley later won the WBO interim title. Clarke has achieved a knockout victory in the first round over Ebenezer Tetteh, and this will be his third attempt to win the British title, after his two fights with Wardley, who was recently promoted to WBO world champion after Oleksandr Usyk vacated the belt. Figures like Henry Cooper, Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury, and Lennox Lewis have held the British title, and look what they achieved afterwards. “It’s like a natural transition and it’s something very important. I know what the British title can do for a career and I’m just focused on winning the fight against TKV, instead of thinking about future fights,” Clarke said. “I had a fight back. I wish I had been more active, but the promoter [Boxxer] had an ongoing situation, so I’ve been waiting and now I finally have the opportunity.” Clarke, who used to work as a security guard at boxing events, considers 20-year-old sensation Moses Itauma as the best of the contenders behind the world number 1, Usyk, from Ukraine. Moses is leading the way, he is the most exciting boxer and has been pushed very well. Clarke will face TKV, from Tottenham in London, on BBC Television, marking the first time the broadcaster has broadcast live professional men’s boxing in 20 years.
The more eyes that look at me and boxing, the better for me, but it’s the last thing I’m thinking about right now. I could have this fight in my garden. Some people seek fame, but my goal is to be the British champion, whether it’s on television or not.
