Italy Crowned Davis Cup Champions Without Sinner

Italy continues to demonstrate its dominance in the Davis Cup, securing its fourth title without the presence of its star, Jannik Sinner. In an exciting final played in Bologna, Matteo Berrettini and Flavio Cobolli led the Italian team to victory over Spain, achieving a resounding 2-0. This triumph represents the fourth Davis Cup title for Italy, and the third consecutive. The last time a nation achieved three consecutive victories was the United States, between 1968 and 1972. Sinner, world number two and a key player in Italy’s recent successes, chose not to participate in this edition to focus on preparing for the upcoming season. Lorenzo Musetti, also absent, was also not part of the team. Italy demonstrated its strength by winning its three matches of the week 2-0 at the SuperTennis Arena in Bologna, overcoming Austria in the quarterfinals and Belgium in the semifinals. Spain, for its part, also suffered the loss of its main figure, Carlos Alcaraz. In the final, Berrettini defeated Pablo Carreño Busta with a score of 6-3, 6-4. Cobolli, for his part, staged an epic comeback against Jaume Munar, winning 1-6, 7-6 (5), 7-5 and securing the decisive point for Italy. Italy celebrated its first Davis Cup title in 1976, followed by victories in Malaga in 2023 and 2024. This is the first time the Italian team has won at home. Spain, six-time champion, played the final for the first time since 2019.
