Lleyton Hewitt and his son Cruz fall in the quarterfinals at the New South Wales Open
The tennis legend, Lleyton Hewitt, a two-time Grand Slam champion, came out of retirement to compete in doubles alongside his son Cruz at the Challenger New South Wales Open tournament. However, their participation came to an end in the quarterfinals.
Hewitt, who reached world number one and won the US Open in 2001 and Wimbledon in 2002, retired from singles tennis in 2016. On this occasion, he teamed up with his 16-year-old son, Cruz, in the doubles competition.
The Hewitt duo proved their worth by defeating Hayden Jones and Pavle Marinkov with a resounding 6-1, 6-0 in a match played on Wednesday.
Despite their initial victory, the father-son duo couldn’t advance beyond the quarterfinals. They fell to Dane Sweeny and Calum Puttergill with a score of 7-5, 6-4.
Lleyton Hewitt currently serves as the captain of the Australian Davis Cup team. Cruz Hewitt is one of Hewitt’s and his wife’s, former actress Bec Hewitt’s, three children.
