WNBA Leaders and the Rise of the Dream: League Analysis

The WNBA season continues its course and the excitement increases as we approach the Commissioner’s Cup in June. The Minnesota Lynx and the New York Liberty remain undefeated at the top, showing a dominance that positions them as favorites for the tournament final for the second consecutive year.

Meanwhile, the Atlanta Dream have burst onto the scene with a four-game winning streak, the longest after the Lynx and Liberty. The team has demonstrated impressive play, although they have not yet faced the league leaders.

Rhyne Howard and Allisha Gray lead Atlanta in scoring, combining for 61 points in the victory against the Seattle Storm. In addition, the additions of Brionna Jones and Brittney Griner are also averaging double figures in scoring. Dream coach Karl Smesko has orchestrated a notable offensive transformation, placing Atlanta in second place in scoring, a radical change from their performance in 2024.

Smesko’s system has worked well. You have many open shots. I feel like we now have the key pieces we need to take us to the next level.
