Shedeur Sanders: Lacking Confidence, But Ready for the Next Challenge
Shedeur Sanders, the young quarterback for the Cleveland Browns, achieved a victory in his debut as a starter, marking a milestone for the franchise. Despite this achievement, Sanders doesn’t feel completely comfortable as he prepares for his second start against the San Francisco 49ers. Browns coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed that Sanders will remain the starting quarterback, even after Dillon Gabriel was cleared from concussion protocol. Sanders led Cleveland to a 24-10 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders. In his first game, Sanders completed 11 of 20 passes for 209 yards, with a touchdown and an interception.Sanders, selected at the 144th pick of this year’s draft, began his NFL career as the fourth quarterback on the depth chart, behind Gabriel and veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett. Following the trade of Flacco and Pickett, the door opened for Sanders to make his first start due to Gabriel’s concussion. Sanders commented that his connection with the starting offense, with which he practiced for the first time last week, is growing. Day after day, minute by minute, meeting after meeting, of course. I feel a little more comfortable with that role, with that position. They also feel more comfortable with me. So I’m excited, I’m happy, and I’m grateful. Several teammates highlighted the energy Sanders brought to the team. Stefanski praised Sanders’ composure under pressure, especially before his first home game.I’m definitely not comfortable, so the first and foremost thing is that I have another opportunity to go out there. But in life, you have to understand how quickly things come or how long they take to come, and they can be snatched away at any moment. So I never feel comfortable in a situation I’m in. I always want to exceed expectations, and I always want to grow every week, I want to offer a better product of myself, be a better version of myself for the team that’s out there.

He’s always done a good job at that. What we appreciate about all of our players is authenticity. He’s the same guy every day. Obviously, on game day there’s energy that comes with that. There’s excitement that comes with that, but he’s played that position for a long time. He knows how to make sure he maintains the main thing.

After the victory, Sanders joked in his post-game interview about how “dangerous” he might be after an offseason full of repetitions. With another week of practice as the starting quarterback, Sanders kept things simple when asked on Wednesday about the expectations in his second start.
“I will say that I will do my job,” he affirmed.
