Star striker Antoine Griezmann has extended his contract with Atlético de Madrid for one more year, ensuring his stay at the club until June 30, 2027.

Griezmann, at 34 years old, is the all-time leading scorer in Atlético’s history with 197 goals. The French player has spent nine seasons at the club, spread across two stages, since his initial arrival in 2014.

In March, Griezmann’s continuity at Atlético was anticipated, despite his prior interest in playing in the MLS.

Antoine Griezmann scored eight goals in 38 LaLiga appearances this season.

The previous agreement of the 2018 world champion expired in June 2026.

The contract extension will allow Atlético to distribute Griezmann’s salary cost over two years, which will benefit the club in terms of LaLiga’s squad spending limits.

In the current season, Griezmann scored eight goals in 38 league matches, contributing to Atlético’s third place in LaLiga, with a total of 16 goals in all competitions.

The French international faced strong competition for a place in the team this season, following the additions of Julián Álvarez and Alexander Sorloth last summer.

Griezmann has openly expressed his desire to play in the MLS in the future, calling it a “goal” to “end my career there”, due to his passion for American sports. With Atlético, Griezmann has won a Europa League, a UEFA Super Cup, and a Spanish Super Cup, although he has not yet won LaLiga or the Champions League. The forward played five seasons at Atlético between 2014 and 2019, followed by two up-and-down years with Barcelona, before returning to Atlético.
