The future of Ange Postecoglou as Tottenham Hotspur’s coach hangs in the balance. Following the announcement of changes in the club’s management, including the departure of CEO Donna-Maria Cullen, a crucial decision is expected this week.

Uncertainty at Tottenham

Despite ending the club’s title drought by winning the Europa League last month, Postecoglou’s continuity is in question. Sources close to the 59-year-old coach suggest that his position is at high risk.

The Premier League season that has just ended was Tottenham’s worst under Postecoglou, with 22 losses, the most in a non-relegation season. The coach is currently on vacation, admitting his uncertainty about whether he will fulfill the remaining two years of his contract.

The new chief executive, Vinai Venkatesham, has already taken up his duties and will play a key role in the decision on the future of the coach, as part of a series of restructurings at the club.

“Let’s not settle for this,” Postecoglou said in an interview. “We’ve tasted it a bit now. My players have tasted it. The club has tasted it. Well, let’s make sure we’re back here.”

In an interview with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Postecoglou expressed his desire for the club not to “relax”, but to focus on the future. Among the possible replacements for Postecoglou, Thomas Frank of Brentford, Marco Silva of Fulham, and Andoni Iraola of Bournemouth are mentioned, although the latter could sign a new contract to remain at his current club.

A final decision on Postecoglou’s future is expected in the coming days. Meanwhile, Tottenham announced the departure of Donna-Maria Cullen, who served as an advisor to Daniel Levy, the club’s chairman.

Cullen, who has been on the board since 2006 and is a trustee of the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, stated:

“It has been a very difficult decision to make. The club has been my life for the last three decades. I have had the privilege of working with Daniel, whose vision and energy have driven the club forward, and with so many talented and wonderful colleagues.”

Levy added:

“Donna has made an immense contribution to the club, over a long period. Her various responsibilities grew significantly and replacing her roles with a single person will be impossible.”

Venkatesham is already looking for candidates to work alongside him in a support role, and there are also significant doubts about the position of the director of football, Scott Munn, in addition to possible changes in the medical and sports science teams.
