José Quintana Returns to the Brewers’ Rotation

The Milwaukee Brewers activated left-handed pitcher José Quintana from the 15-day injured list this Sunday. His return marks the start of the final game of the series against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Quintana had been placed on the injured list on May 14 due to shoulder inflammation. His last appearance was on May 9, where he allowed three runs (one earned) and five hits in 5.1 innings, resulting in a 4-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. Brewers secured Quintana as a free agent on March 5, and his performance has been notable. In six starts, he has a 4-1 record with a 2.65 ERA, allowing 12 runs (10 earned) in 34 innings.

Quintana, 36, played last season with the New York Mets, finishing with a 10-10 record and a 3.75 ERA in 170.1 innings. Throughout his career, which began in 2012 with the Chicago White Sox, he has a 106-104 record with a 3.72 ERA, playing for eight different teams.

In his career, Quintana has faced the Phillies 12 times, with a 1-2 record and an ERA of 3.53 in 66.1 innings.

In another move, the Brewers designated left-handed pitcher Tyler Alexander for assignment. Alexander, 30, has a 3-5 record with a 6.19 ERA in 21 appearances (four starts) this season.

In his career, Alexander has a 20-33 record with an ERA of 4.67 in 164 appearances (56 starts) with the Detroit Tigers, the Rays, and the Brewers.
