Spain Qualifies for the Davis Cup Final
BOLOGNA, Italy – Spain secured its place in the Davis Cup final thanks to the outstanding performance of the doubles pair formed by Marcel Granollers and Pedro Martínez. In an exciting match, they managed to defeat the German duo composed of Tim Pütz and Kevin Krawietz, with a score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, thus sealing Spain’s overall victory by 2-1 in the semi-final.
Alexander Zverev kept the hopes of the German team alive by winning his match against Jaume Munar with a score of 7-6 (2), 7-6 (5). Previously, Pablo Carreño Busta had given the first point to Spain by defeating Jan-Lennard Struff.
Carreño Busta demonstrated his strength by saving five consecutive set points in the tiebreaker, finally achieving victory over the veteran German with a score of 6-4, 7-6 (6).
The Granollers-Martínez pair surprised Pütz and Krawietz, inflicting only their second defeat in the Davis Cup.
This victory propels the Spanish team, which competed without its number 1, Carlos Alcaraz due to an injury, to the final for the first time in six years.
Spain will face Italy in the final, the defending champion on two occasions, who previously defeated Belgium.
