Sung-mun Song is running for MLB
South Korean infielder Sung-mun Song has announced his intention to enter the Major League Baseball (MLB) posting system. He will be available for teams to sign from Saturday through December 21st.
Song, who primarily plays as a third baseman, had an outstanding season this year with the Kiwoom Heroes of South Korea, where he batted .315, achieving a personal record of 26 home runs and 90 RBIs.
The 29-year-old left-handed hitter has a .284 average, 80 home runs, and 454 RBIs in his nine seasons in the South Korean league, playing for the Nexen (2015, ’17-18) and Kiwoom (2019, ’21-25) teams.
Unlike the 45-day publication period for players from Japanese clubs, the deadline for players from South Korean teams is 30 days.
According to the MLB’s posting agreement with the KBO League, the posting fee would be 20% of the first $25 million of a Major League contract, including bonuses and earned options. The percentage is reduced to 17.5% of the next $25 million and to 15% of any amount over $50 million. There would be a supplementary fee of 15% of any earned bonuses, salary increases, and exercised options.
