Holger Rune Requests the Expulsion of a Spectator at Roland Garros

In a match marked by tension, Danish tennis player Holger Rune requested the expulsion of a spectator during his match at the French Open. The incident occurred after Rune, visibly frustrated, threw his towel towards his box.

Rune was facing Frenchman Quentin Halys on the Philippe-Chatrier court when the incident occurred, near the end of the third set, in a match that the Dane ultimately won with a score of 4-6, 6-2, 5-7, 7-5, 6-2.

World number 10, Rune, explained that the spectator reacted aggressively to the way he threw his towel.

“The guy was yelling at me aggressively, he came up to me,” he said. “I found it very strange, because I didn’t do anything against him and I shouldn’t interact with a player on the court. It’s a bit embarrassing.”

Rune felt justified in his request.

“I can hit the towel against my towel box, I didn’t do anything against him. I think maybe he got upset because I threw the towel in my towel box. But I can do whatever I want with my towel box as long as I respect everyone, which I think I did, and the referee believed it because I didn’t get any warning.”

The Danish tennis player was satisfied with the behavior of the rest of the audience present. In the next round, Rune will face the Italian Lorenzo Musetti, the eighth seed.
