Grant Gavin Shines on the Mound: Leones del Escogido Dominates Estrellas Orientales

SAN PEDRO DE MACORÍS – Right-handed pitcher Grant Gavin starred in a masterful performance, leading the Leones del Escogido to a 3-1 victory over the Estrellas Orientales at the Tetelo Vargas stadium. Gavin covered seven impeccable innings, allowing only one hit and striking out four batters. Gavin demonstrated absolute control, using only 70 pitches to complete his outstanding work. His fastball, which ranged between 90 and 92 mph and was used in 79% of his pitches, was his main weapon. He complemented his repertoire with changeups (82-84 mph) and curves (78 mph), keeping opposing batters at bay. Gavin’s performance was so dominant that he faced a minimum of 21 batters and retired the last 17 consecutively. The Lions’ offense made itself felt in the fourth inning, scoring two runs against Enny Romero. Erik González hit a single to right field, starting the attack. A throwing error by shortstop José Tena allowed the first run, and then a hit by Jorge Mateo drove in the second. In the sixth, González was again crucial, connecting a triple to center field and scoring Escogido’s third run thanks to a sacrifice fly by Héctor Rodríguez. The Estrellas managed to score a run thanks to a solo home run by Ángel Martínez, hit between left and center field against Fernando Abad. Gavin (3-1) got the win, while Romero (0-2) took the loss. Jimmy Cordero earned his third save of the season.

For the Leones, Erik González stood out with a triple and two runs scored; Héctor Rodríguez contributed with a run batted in and a run scored, and Jorge Mateo added a run batted in. For the Estrellas, Ángel Martínez hit a home run and Robinson Canó hit a single.

With this triumph, the Escogido improves its record to 9-12, while the Estrellas fall to 10-12. The Lions return home this Wednesday to face the Tigres del Licey at 7:15 PM.
