Blackhawks Captain Nick Foligno Out With Injury
Chicago Blackhawks captain Nick Foligno will be out of action for four weeks due to a hand injury sustained on Saturday during his team’s 3-2 victory against the Toronto Maple Leafs, according to coach Jeff Blashill.
Foligno, 38, was injured with 90 seconds left in the second period. The incident occurred while he was skating near the Blackhawks’ defensive zone, and a shot by Jake McCabe deflected the puck toward his hand.
After the injury, Foligno looked visibly affected and went to the bench. He did not return for the third period, but finished the game with three shots on goal and a time on ice of 10:41.
The absence of Foligno, who has six points in 15 games, represents a hard blow for the Blackhawks. The player performs as a center of the fourth line, forming part of a combination with Sam Lafferty and Landon Slaggert.
This injury adds to that of Jason Dickinson, who is already on the injured list.
After a past season with few points in the NHL, the Blackhawks (9-5-4) have surprised in the first quarter of the regular season. With their victory against the Maple Leafs, they tie for third place in the Central Division, surpassing the Vegas Golden Knights and Seattle Kraken by one point in the race for the Western Conference wildcard.
