Djokovic Seeks His 100th Title in Geneva

Geneva – Novak Djokovic is one victory away from reaching his 100th career singles title on the ATP Tour, after advancing to the final of the Geneva Open on Friday.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion had to overcome a missed match point in the second set before defeating British qualifier Cameron Norrie with a score of 6-4, 6-7 (6), 6-1 in the semifinal.

Djokovic will face Hubert Hurkacz in the final on Saturday.

The Pole, ranked 31st, defeated Austrian Sebastian Ofner, also from the qualifying phase, with a score of 6-3, 6-4.

Djokovic has already achieved his main goal in coming to Geneva, which was to get match practice on clay before heading to Roland-Garros for the French Open, which begins on Sunday.

The victories in three consecutive days at the lakeside park event, including his 38th birthday on Thursday, followed the defeat in his first match in the clay court events last month in Monte Carlo and Madrid.

Djokovic was losing 5-2 in the second set, then won three games in a row and had a match point in the tiebreaker. Finally, an error on the service return allowed Norrie to force the deciding set.

An early service break in the third was backed up by a dominant serve, and Djokovic closed out the semifinal on a rarely sunny court this week.
