Kansas City Current and US Women’s National Team defender Alana Cook suffered a serious knee injury last week, the club announced on Thursday.
Cook suffered a tear of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), the medial collateral ligament (MCL), and the meniscus in his left knee.
“Alana has had a great impact on our club on and off the field in a short period of time, and our hearts break for her,” said Kansas City coach Vlatko Andonovski in a statement.

Cook, with 30 international matches with the USWNT, was called up to the team last April after her consistent performance since she arrived at Kansas City last summer.
The player participated in one of the matches against Brazil, which marked her first international appearance since October 2023.

Cook left the field in the 62nd minute of Kansas City’s 1-0 victory over Orlando on May 16.
The victory gave Kansas City a four-point lead at the top of the NWSL table, but it came at a high cost.
Brazilian game creator Debinha and 2024 NWSL MVP and Golden Boot winner Temwa Chawinga also left the match due to injuries.
Debinha wrote on her Instagram account on Wednesday that the injury would keep her out “for a while”.
Andonovski told the media on Wednesday that Debinha will not return “until after the summer.”
The NWSL resumes after its summer break in August.
Chawinga was still being evaluated, Andonovski said on Wednesday.
The coach said after last week’s match that Chawinga’s injury is related to the one that has been bothering her all year. The Current has declined to specify what the injury is.
