Franco Colapinto’s debut as an Alpine driver in the qualifying session of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix did not go as expected. An accident at the Tamburello chicane during Q1 cut short his participation.

The Argentinian driver, who is replacing Jack Doohan this weekend, was involved in the incident that forced the session to be stopped.

Colapinto, with previous experience at Williams, took the wheel with the aim of proving his worth in the upcoming races.

The 21-year-old was looking to improve his initial time in Q1 when he lost control of his single-seater in the final section of Tamburello. The car went off the track, going through the gravel and crashing into the barriers.

Despite the incident, Colapinto had achieved the 14th best time before the session was stopped, which allowed him to advance to Q2.

However, the Argentinian could lose positions on the grid, as he is under investigation for leaving the pit lane before the session officially resumed after a previous red flag.

The previous interruption was caused by a strong impact from Yuki Tsunoda (Red Bull) in the Villeneuve chicane, after losing control when entering the corner.
