Carlos Sainz Jr. Trusts His Father’s Integrity Amidst Potential FIA Candidacy
Williams driver Carlos Sainz Jr. has expressed his confidence that there would be no conflict of interest if his father, Carlos Sainz Sr., were to run for the presidency of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA).
Sainz Sr. is evaluating the possibility of presenting his candidacy in the FIA presidential elections, scheduled for December, where he could face the current president, Mohammed Ben Sulayem.
One of the possible concerns regarding Sainz Sr.’s candidacy could be a supposed conflict of interest, given that his son still competes in Formula 1. However, the Williams driver assures that the necessary measures would be taken to avoid any problem.
I’ve been trying to think of scenarios where there could be a conflict, but I really don’t see any way that could happen. If anything, obviously he will be extremely careful, I will be extremely careful because the last thing I want is for my image or his career to be damaged by that situation.

Sainz Jr. added that his father began to consider the presidential candidacy after other members of the motorsport community suggested the idea.
We’ve been talking about it for a while. Interestingly, I think it’s something that didn’t actually come from him. A lot of people in the paddock were putting the idea in his head and, little by little, he started to consider it. And now, obviously, he’s thinking about it.

The driver concluded by saying that his father has not yet formed a team nor formally presented his candidacy, so the final decision will depend on how he assesses the situation.
