Corey Kluber Joins Guardians as Special Assistant
The Cleveland Guardians have announced the addition of Corey Kluber, a two-time American League Cy Young Award winner, as a special assistant to their pitching staff. Kluber, who officially retired in February 2024, will bring his vast experience to the team.
Kluber, who played the majority of his 13-year career with Cleveland, now returns to the organization to share his knowledge.

In his own words, Kluber explained his approach after his retirement.
“I don’t think I looked for anything on purpose last year. That first year without playing I wanted to see where I was mentally, see what felt good.”

Kluber, 39, plans to be flexible in his role, adapting to the needs of the team.
“A lot is about figuring it out as we go. Nothing is set in stone, but I think it’s about trying to find the best ways to contribute.”

During his career, Kluber had a record of 116-77 with an ERA of 3.44 in 271 games (260 starts) with the Guardians (2011-19), Texas Rangers (2020), New York Yankees (2021), Tampa Bay Rays (2022) and Boston Red Sox (2023).
The three-time All-Star won two American League Cy Young Awards with Cleveland in 2014 and 2017. He also threw a no-hitter against the Rangers on May 19, 2021.
Pitching coach Carl Willis, who coached Kluber from 2018 to 2019, commented on the importance of this addition.
“It’s a great combination. He’s a great presence for our young pitchers. They know what he accomplished in his career, particularly what he accomplished here. He’s not so far removed that he can still relate to the player and everything.”
