Arsenal’s Young Promise, Max Dowman, Secures His Future with the Club
The 15-year-old footballer, Max Dowman, has reached an agreement to sign a scholarship contract with Arsenal, a Premier League team. It is expected that, upon turning 17, he will be offered a professional contract.
Dowman is considered one of the most promising talents to emerge from the club’s youth system in recent years. He made his first-team debut on August 23, in the 5-0 victory against Leeds United, at just 15 years and 235 days old.
The scholarship agreement ties him to Arsenal for two years, starting from his 16th birthday on December 31st. Subsequently, a professional contract may be offered, which will come into effect when he turns 17.
Several major European clubs had shown interest in signing Dowman, but the player, a lifelong Arsenal supporter, always wanted to continue his development at the North London club.In his debut against Leeds, Dowman, who won a penalty in added time, became the second youngest player in Premier League history. Viktor Gyökeres was in charge of scoring the penalty. His Arsenal teammate, Ethan Nwaneri, holds the record for the youngest player to debut in the league.
Dowman is also the youngest goalscorer in the history of Arsenal U21 in Premier League 2. He scored in his first start in the competition last month.
The young midfielder, at 15 years and 263 days old, broke the previous record set by Reiss Nelson.
Dowman and Nwaneri join Bukayo Saka and Myles Lewis-Skelly as academy prospects who have made the jump to Mikel Arteta’s team.
