Tebas regrets the cancellation of the LaLiga match in Miami
Javier Tebas, president of LaLiga, has expressed his disappointment at the decision to cancel the match between Barcelona and Villarreal in Miami. The match, scheduled for December, generated controversy and criticism, especially due to the supposed impact on the integrity of the competition.
The players showed their discontent with the initiative on the LaLiga matchday, delaying the start of the matches for a few seconds. The league announced the cancellation due to the uncertainty generated in Spain in recent weeks.
Today, Spanish football has missed an opportunity to advance, project itself globally and strengthen its future.
Tebas argued that this decision represents a setback and criticized those who oppose the project. Through his social media, he highlighted that the defense of “tradition” is based on a limited vision, while the true traditions of European football are threatened by decisions of the institutions that harm the national leagues.
In addition, Tebas pointed out that the “integrity of the competition” is invoked by those who constantly question it, pressuring referees and leaders, constructing distorted narratives and using political and media pressure as a sporting tool.
The LaLiga president thanked Villarreal and Barcelona for their commitment to the project, highlighting their generosity in prioritizing the growth of the competition. He assured that LaLiga will continue working to maintain the competitiveness of Spanish football, respecting its roots and ensuring its sustainability.
Tebas concluded that Spanish football must look to the future with ambition, and not with fear, and that they will keep trying.
Villarreal, as the designated home team, would likely have felt the match as an additional home game for Barcelona, given the large fanbase of the Catalan club worldwide.
