Darren Waller to Injured Reserve
Miami Dolphins tight end Darren Waller has been placed on injured reserve after suffering a pectoral injury during last week’s loss to the Cleveland Browns. Waller was injured in the first half of Sunday’s game and did not return to the game. This was his fourth game of the season, after missing the first three due to a hip injury suffered during training camp.Waller had an impactful season debut in Week 4, with three receptions for 27 yards and two touchdowns. The following week, he achieved 78 yards and a touchdown on five receptions against the Carolina Panthers, all in the first half. However, since then he has only recorded two receptions for 12 yards and a touchdown in two games, while the Dolphins’ passing offense has struggled during their three-game losing streak. Waller will be eligible to return against the New Orleans Saints in Week 12. Miami has a bye in Week 11. In a corresponding move, the Dolphins signed tight end Greg Dulcich from their practice squad to their active roster. The Dolphins negotiated for Waller in July, and he came out of a one-year retirement to reunite with current offensive coordinator Frank Smith, who was Waller’s position coach during his best seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders. Waller worked separately during the first weeks of training camp while getting in shape for football, but suffered a setback when he injured his hip in August. It was a soft tissue issue. It’s a situation where you’d probably be living with the hope of seeing him in the next games, but he will be diligent. This means a lot to him, but that’s where I am right now with the information I have.
