Rybakina Advances to the Ningbo Tournament Final after Defeating Paolini

Elena Rybakina, the former Wimbledon champion, has broken a five-month drought by reaching the final of the Ningbo Open. Rybakina secured her place in the final with a convincing victory over Jasmine Paolini, with a score of 6-3 and 6-2. In a match that lasted 89 minutes, Rybakina demonstrated her skill on the court, achieving 10 aces and defending seven break points against Paolini, who was the second seed of the tournament.

I knew the match would be very difficult. Jasmine has played very well this season. She is a very tough opponent, and I knew I would have to give my best. I am happy to have stayed focused until the end and won in straight sets.

After failing to advance in the semifinals of the Citi Open, the Canadian Open, and the Cincinnati Masters in recent months, Rybakina seeks to add the title of the Ningbo Open to her record, joining the WTA 500 she won on clay in Strasbourg on May 24th. This victory keeps Rybakina’s aspirations alive to participate in the end-of-season WTA Finals, after Paolini lost the opportunity to secure her place in the Turin tournament on Saturday. Ekaterina Alexandrova, who is in the top 10 of her career for the first time, will face Rybakina, the third seed, in the final, after defeating Diana Shnaider with a score of 6-3 and 6-4.
