Christian Braun Secures His Future with the Nuggets
Denver Nuggets guard Christian Braun has reached an agreement to extend his rookie contract with the franchise for five years and $125 million, according to his agent, Bill Duffy of WME Basketball.
Braun, selected at number 21 in the 2022 NBA draft, has become a key player for the team’s development. The Nuggets’ senior executives, Ben Tenzer and Jon Wallace, prioritized negotiating a new long-term contract to secure Braun’s permanence as a fundamental part of the team in the future.
The team announced the signing of the new agreement, but did not disclose the specific terms.
Braun had an outstanding performance last season, averaging 15.4 points, a significant increase from 7.3 points in the 2023-24 season. In addition, he recorded 5.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game, with 39.7% effectiveness in three-point shots, in 79 games (77 as a starter). He was one of five players to average at least 15 points and five rebounds with 58% field goal effectiveness, being the only one who does not play in the center position.
Braun’s growth as a guard is crucial to support figures like Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray, Aaron Gordon, and newcomer Cameron Johnson. Specifically, in transition, Braun brings offense to the Nuggets, leading the NBA in total fast-break points last season. He became the first player with at least 400 fast-break points in a season since Buddy Hield in 2018-19.
On the other hand, the Nuggets are not expected to reach a rookie contract extension agreement with Peyton Watson before Monday’s deadline, according to sources.
