Grizzlies’ Ty Jerome to Suffer Injury

Memphis Grizzlies guard Ty Jerome has been diagnosed with a high-grade right calf strain and will be re-evaluated in four weeks, the team announced on Monday. Jerome suffered the injury during the first quarter of last week’s preseason game against the Miami Heat. After a standout season with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Jerome became a free agent and signed a three-year, $28 million contract to join the Grizzlies. Memphis is facing several injuries heading into the start of the regular season on Wednesday against the New Orleans Pelicans.
  • Backup point guard Scottie Pippen Jr. will be out for at least 12 weeks due to a left big toe injury.
  • Second-year center Zach Edey has been sidelined with an ankle injury.
  • Backup forward Brandon Clarke underwent knee surgery late last month. He was expected to be re-evaluated six weeks after the surgery.
Star point guard Ja Morant has also been on the injured list due to an ankle injury, but is expected to play in Wednesday’s opening game.
