Texas Rangers closer Luke Jackson suffered a setback in the game against the Colorado Rockies on Monday night. A powerful 111 mph hit directly impacted his throwing hand, forcing him to leave the game.
The incident occurred in the ninth inning, right after Jackson entered the mound. The hit, connected by Ryan McMahon, bounced off the pitcher’s hand and became an infield single.
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy reported that the X-rays were negative, but Jackson’s hand swelled considerably. Although not confirmed, a stint on the injured list is a possibility.
We’ll see how he responds. It swelled up immediately, so there’s some concern.

Rangers’ opening pitcher Tyler Mahle, who pitched for 6 innings and a third, expressed his solidarity with Jackson.
I was just out there trying to do what he does, and then something that bad happens. It just sucks.

The team was also without shortstop Corey Seager, who missed his fourth game in five due to hamstring discomfort.
In the same game, Rangers reliever Chris Martin made an impressive catch of a hit by Brenton Doyle, demonstrating his agility by falling to his knees to make the play.
Jacob Webb replaced Jackson and managed to get an out by fielder’s choice. The Rockies loaded the bases after a single by Michael Toglia and a walk to Sean Bouchard.
The game culminated with Webb earning his first save. Kyle Farmer hit a ground ball to third baseman Josh Jung, who stepped on the base and then threw to first to complete a double play.
That walk put him in trouble there. He lost it there for four pitches, but then he made a pitch when he had to to get the big double play.
