Elkann Confirms Confidence in Vasseur Amidst Rumors

Ferrari chairman John Elkann has reiterated the company’s “full confidence” in Formula 1 team boss Fred Vasseur amid speculation about his future. Vasseur received a multi-year contract extension in July. However, a recent report suggested that Elkann had been considering former Red Bull boss Christian Horner to replace him next year. Horner could return to F1 in the spring of 2026, after reaching an agreement with his former team. The news emerged at a time when Ferrari is close to finishing a season without victories in major races.

Ferrari President John Elkann and Team Principal Fred Vasseur. Star driver Lewis Hamilton called the news about Horner “distracting” and, when asked if it would be a good idea for Ferrari to sign the Englishman, simply replied: “No, and I’m not going to fuel those rumors.” The team has emphasized, in the run-up to this weekend’s United States Grand Prix, that there is no basis to the report. Speaking at the National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) in Washington D.C. on Saturday, Elkann tried to distance himself further from Horner.

I want to express our full confidence in our team principal, Fred Vasseur, and in the work he is carrying out together with all our colleagues at Scuderia Ferrari: the mechanics, engineers and drivers competing this weekend in Austin.

Elkann added: “I also want to reaffirm the importance of teamwork by everyone to keep us focused on the only goal that matters: always give our best on the track.” Ferrari hasn’t won an F1 championship of any kind since the constructors’ in 2008. Kimi Raikkonen’s title in 2007 remains the last one won by a Ferrari driver.
