Jaromir Jagr, at 53 years old, begins his 38th season
The legendary ice hockey player, Jaromir Jagr, 53 years old, has begun his 38th season as a professional. He did so by playing on the fourth line for his hometown team, the Kladno Knights, in the Czech league. In Friday night’s game against Vitkovice, which ended in a 3-1 victory for Kladno, Jagr recorded 10:08 minutes of ice time. His season debut was delayed due to a muscle problem, but he was finally able to join the team. This was the fifteenth game of the season for Kladno, and Jagr, at 53 years and 244 days old, demonstrated his longevity in the sport. Jagr made his debut with Kladno at 16 years old and returned to the club in 2018 after being released by the Calgary Flames. Currently, Jagr is second on the NHL’s career points list, behind only Wayne Gretzky. With 766 goals in the NHL, Jagr ranks fourth all-time on that list. He played 11 seasons in Pittsburgh, where he won the Stanley Cup with the Penguins in 1991 and 1992.Until the beginning of this year, Jagr held dual roles as a player and owner of Kladno, dividing his time between seeking sponsors, administrative tasks, and playing time. Jagr acquired full ownership in 2017 and sold a majority stake in Kladno in January to financially boost the team. He stated that he would be happy to complete the season trying to take Kladno to the playoffs for the first time. They failed to reach the playoffs, so he has another chance this season. He makes his presence felt in the locker room. We have a lot of fun with him.
