The Arizona Diamondbacks are about to call up their star prospect, shortstop Jordan Lawlar, according to reports from multiple sources.
Lawlar, considered the No. 4 overall prospect according to MLB.com, is called up from Triple-A Reno, where he batted .336 with 15 doubles, six home runs and 31 RBIs in 37 games this season.
Mike Hazen, Arizona’s general manager, expressed that Lawlar is ready to join the team.

Lawlar, selected sixth overall in the 2021 MLB draft, participated in 14 games with the Diamondbacks in 2023, achieving four hits and 11 strikeouts in 31 at-bats. His 2024 season was limited to only 23 games due to an injury, playing for Reno, Double-A Amarillo, and the ACL Diamondbacks.
Lawlar could play in several positions in the infield, demonstrating his ability at second and third base, in addition to shortstop. This is considered given the signing of Geraldo Perdomo for 45 million dollars by Arizona, who bats .292 with five home runs, nine doubles and 30 RBIs this year.
“I told Jordan we signed Perdomo for him,” Hazen commented. “It wasn’t to block him. I want them to be together. This will be a very good team with both of them on the same. I’m not necessarily worried about who is the shortstop.”
