Amorim on the Tightrope After Manchester United Defeat
Ruben Amorim has acknowledged that his position as Manchester United’s coach is in danger if he fails to improve the team’s performance in the Premier League.
United suffered their seventeenth league defeat of the season, falling 2-0 to West Ham at Old Trafford on Sunday.
In a post-match press conference, Amorim admitted to feeling “ashamed” by United’s position in the table, criticized his players’ attitude, and questioned whether he is the right man to turn the club around.
Their team, currently in sixteenth position in the Premier League, is heading for their worst league ranking since their relegation to the second division in 1974.
How is a Manchester United coach supposed to feel in this situation? Ashamed and it’s hard to accept,” stated Amorim.

Amorim also expressed his concern about the lack of urgency in the club.
For me, the biggest concern is that feeling that everything is fine. We can’t change our position, so nothing happens. That’s the biggest problem in our club right now, because we are losing the feeling that we are a massive club and that losing a home game is the end of the world.

Despite guiding United to the Europa League final, Amorim has only won six Premier League matches since being appointed manager in November.
The 40-year-old coach has a contract until 2027, but hinted that he will not stay long at the club if he fails to quickly reverse the situation.
I don’t want to talk about players, I’m talking about myself. I’m talking about the culture in the club and the culture in the team. We need to be really strong in the summer and be brave. We won’t have a next season like this if we start like this. If the feeling remains here, we should give space to different people.

United have another league match against Chelsea on Friday before facing Tottenham in the Europa League on May 21.

Ruben Amorim was very upset after Manchester United’s 2-0 defeat to West Ham on Sunday.
There is a trophy and Champions League qualification at stake in Bilbao, although Amorim suggested that the club might not be ready to return to the top European competition.
I’m not worried about the final, it is, by far, the smallest problem of our club. We need to change something that is deeper than this. We are showing at the end of the season that playing in the Premier League and in the Champions League for us is the moon. We need to know that and I’m not worried about the final.
