Leclerc: “It’s not a pleasant feeling” after the Singapore GP

Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc expressed his disappointment after the Singapore Grand Prix, calling the team’s current situation “not a pleasant feeling.” Leclerc, who finished in sixth position, admitted that expectations regarding the performance of the Ferrari car have had to be revised downwards. While Ferrari has yet to achieve a victory in the 2026 season, their rivals McLaren, Red Bull, and Mercedes have celebrated victories, with McLaren and Mercedes showing superior performance. George Russell of Mercedes secured the second victory of the year for his team in Singapore, while Leclerc and his teammate, Lewis Hamilton, struggled to reach sixth and eighth position respectively, due to brake problems.

From lap eight, it was basically about managing those brakes. It made our race very, very complicated.

Leclerc offered a candid assessment of Ferrari’s competitive situation.

Unfortunately, we don’t have the car to compete with those in front. McLaren has always had the same gap to us compared to the beginning of the year. Red Bull took a step forward since Monza and the same level of McLaren.

The driver continued explaining that Mercedes is now at the same level as McLaren and Red Bull, while Ferrari lags behind, making it difficult to aim for higher positions. Leclerc admitted that, at this moment, the team feels like “passengers” in the car, unable to extract much more than what they have for the rest of the season. This situation contrasts with the previous year, when Ferrari competed with McLaren until the last race for the constructors’ championship. Leclerc tried to maintain a positive attitude about the season in general. When asked if it’s difficult to handle the feeling of disappointment in a year like 2025, he replied: “Yes, it requires a lot of energy, but that doesn’t demotivate me… it motivates me, if anything, much more to try to change the situation. But it’s very hard, especially after a race like today’s, where you’re not even fighting for a podium, you have to manage a lot of problems. It’s simply not a pleasant feeling.”
