The Boston Red Sox’s designated hitter, Rafael Devers, is not interested in changing positions.
Devers, after Triston Casas’ injury, revealed that the Red Sox management proposed that he cover first base.
They came and talked to me about that. I know I’m a baseball player, but at the same time, they can’t expect me to play every position. In spring training, they told me to keep my glove. I wasn’t going to play any position other than DH. Right now, I don’t think it’s an appropriate decision on their part to ask me to play another position.

The three-time All-Star, who was moved to DH during spring training, after the signing of Alex Bregman, expressed that it is not in his interest to change positions again.
Devers spoke with Red Sox chief baseball operations officer Craig Breslow about the possibility of playing first base in the absence of Casas.
Currently, Boston uses a rotation at first base with Romy Gonzalez and Abraham Toro.
I was put in this situation. They told me they didn’t want me to play in other positions.

Devers suggested to Breslow to look for another player in the market.
Now, they should essentially do their job and look for another player in the market. I’m not sure why they want me to be an intermediary.

Devers reiterated his stance as a full-time DH and expressed his discontent with the idea of being considered for a position he hasn’t played in the Major Leagues.
They told me I’m a little stubborn, but they already asked me to change positions once. This time, I don’t think I can be that flexible. I don’t feel like they’ve kept their word. They told me I was going to play in this position, DH. Now they’re backtracking on that.
