Jonathan Drouin Suspended for One Game

New York Islanders forward Jonathan Drouin has been suspended for one game due to a cross-checking action against Connor Dewar of the Pittsburgh Penguins. The NHL’s Player Safety Department issued the sanction on Friday, following a disciplinary hearing to review the play. Drouin, 30, received a major penalty of more than five minutes and was ejected for the action in an altercation after the whistle, with 15 seconds left in Thursday night’s game, which left Dewar on the ice. This is the first suspension in Drouin’s career in the league. He will miss the Islanders’ home opener on Saturday night against Washington. In addition, he will forfeit $20,833 of his salary, which will go to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
