Greyserman, Cauley, and Campbell Lead at the Baycurrent Classic

In an inaugural day marked by intensity, American golfers Max Greyserman, Bud Cauley, and Brian Campbell emerged as leaders of the Baycurrent Classic in Japan, after registering a remarkable 67, four under par. The tournament, the only PGA Tour event on Japanese soil, moves this year to the Yokohama Country Club, after being held east of Tokyo since 2019 under the name Zozo Championship. A group of eight players were one stroke behind the leaders, including Australian Adam Scott. Another seven golfers were two strokes away. Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa, both members of the losing U.S. Ryder Cup team, finished with a pair of 71s. Defending champion Nico Echavarria of Colombia completed the round with a 70. Hideki Matsuyama, the 2021 Masters champion, signed a card of 72 in the first round. Greyserman, who was the runner-up last year, losing by one stroke on the 72nd hole, expressed his enthusiasm for playing in Japan.

I love playing in Japan. It’s a great culture, respectful people, respectful fans.

Greyserman described the first round as “very, very difficult” due to the strong winds. In addition, he praised Echavarria, who is looking to defend his title.

Nico made it that week. So maybe he can make it this week.
