Leclerc expresses frustration after the Singapore Grand Prix

Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc shared his feelings after the Singapore Grand Prix, describing the team’s current situation as “not a pleasant feeling.” Leclerc has had to reassess expectations regarding the performance of the Ferrari car, while his rivals compete for victories. While Ferrari has yet to achieve a victory in 2026, teams like McLaren, Red Bull, and Mercedes have secured wins, with at least two each, and all have won since the summer break. George Russell of Mercedes secured his second victory of the year at the Singapore Grand Prix, while Leclerc and his teammate, Lewis Hamilton, struggled to reach sixth and eighth place, respectively, due to brake problems. Leclerc commented that, from the eighth lap onwards, the race focused on brake management, which made the competition very difficult. A video of Leclerc having to lift off the accelerator to save energy, while being overtaken by the Mercedes driver, Kimi Antonelli, went viral after the race.

Leclerc gave a sincere assessment of Ferrari’s position in the competition.

Unfortunately, we don’t have the car to compete with those ahead.

According to Leclerc, McLaren has maintained the same distance from Ferrari since the beginning of the year, Red Bull has improved since Monza, and Mercedes is at the same level as McLaren and Red Bull. Leclerc admitted that it is not easy, as the team wants to fight for better positions, but they currently feel that they are “passengers” and cannot get much more out of what is there. Compared to the previous year, Ferrari was competing with McLaren in the constructors’ championship. Ferrari took that battle to the last race of the year, where Lando Norris’s victory was enough for McLaren to take the championship. However, Ferrari has not matched McLaren’s pace this season, and the British team secured the championship with six races to spare. Leclerc tried to show an optimistic attitude when asked about the overall season.

I wouldn’t describe it as the most difficult season. I think every time you’re not fighting to win, it’s difficult, but obviously, coming from a year like the previous one, where you’re fighting for the World Championship, the Constructors’ Championship, and then you come here with high expectations.

Leclerc added that expectations must be lowered from the start, and that he doesn’t see any progression throughout the year. He concluded by saying that it’s difficult, especially after a race like today’s, where they don’t even fight for the podium, and they have to manage many problems, which is not a pleasant feeling.
